So you’re new to the Lions or your undecided what you want to name your character?

The Lions portray Western European early medieval knights from 500 .ad to about 1200 .ad so any name chosen from roughly those time periods is a fine idea.

The world of Bicolline is a large fantasy world where any fantasy names that you make up work as well however it might be better to chose your name with some guide lines on what to avoid.

1. Offensive Names. ( IE. Aden the Maiden Smacker or Killsprig Shitslayer)
2. Silly Names or Nonsense Names ( IE. Fambooz Bonk Link)
3. Inappropriate Names ( IE. Wonder Man, Flash, or Tank)
4. Well known Fantasy Names ( Robin Hood, Arragon, Merlin)

As Knights we should stick to Stoic or noble names. Medieval Fantasy takes reference from history so if you still cannot make up your mind taking a name from history might be a good idea.

But you might say "I am not sure I know any good medieval names?" worry not! History is filled with both more mundane names that have survived though history like John and Mathew and more obscure names that are hardly used anymore.

From the Time of the fall of the Roman Empire to the crowning of Richard the Lion Heart gives you a wealth of names to choose from.

Here are a few links with Saxon, Welsh and other Celtic names that might help you make a decision if you’re feeling stuck.

Sir Mathiew's last link also has links to baby names of many other cultures, liek germanic baby names (there's only 5 though) but possibly of interest to some of our francophone members (which is most of us) is a link to french baby names which includes several old french or celtic french baby names.

http://www.babynamenetwork.com/baby_names/origins/French_baby_names.cfm

also latin names:

they also have basque names, breton names, cornish, anglosaxon, arabic, hebrew, frisian, norse and many many more anceint cultures!

there's a list on the left side.

Great site sir mathiew

Hello everyone,

I know a vast majority of Lions - if not all of them - have already chosen a name for their character. But in case someone is still looking for ideas, I just found this really neat list of Viking names; sorted as "Male", "Female", "Undetermined Gender", "Nicknames" and even "Dog Names".

http://www.angelfire.com/wy/svenskildbiter/Viking/viknams3.html

This could also be useful to help flesh out believable characters in any future story you may want to write about your persona.

Hope you like it !
